Piero Refolo
CEO, AERMATICA
Born in 1971, he receives the degree in Telecommunication Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1997.
He begins his professional experience in worldwide automation leader ABB, taking part in relevant projects where he is involved in the development of systems and software for control and automation of industrial plants, for control of production and quality. He participates actively at start-up phase of several plants.
In September 1999 he decides to face a new professional challenge, beginning an experience in a start-up company named Info Solution (at that time 4 workers). He becomes co-owner of this firm in 2000.
At the beginning he takes part in projects in aero-space area. Meanwhile, he begins taking account management activities. He participates at every evolution phase of the firm (up to 80 workers, 3 sites), doing various activities and playing several roles required for the business growth. As Human Resouces Director he defines processes for carrier planning, involved in the yearly workforce definition, resources planning and allocation, knowledge management and pay system definition. Handles several contracts, as Key Account Manager, for big programs of relevant customers in the aero-space field.
Thus he acquires “on field” management skills, deeply enhanced on theorical side by a two - years Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at the business school of Politecnico Di Milano (MIP).
He studies, among all, control management, marketing & communication, innovation, design of a new product, finance. His final thesis is about “Internationalization of an ICT medium size company”.
Strongly interested in social networking, he is also active in several business networking communities.
He is co-founder and CEO at AERMATICA ( www.aermatica.com ), company that conceives, designes, manufactures and sells small flight-capable unmanned vehicles (light UAV).

The final light UAV devices are flying robot systems, autonomous and intelligent, with data acquisition and transmission capabilities. This data can be images, videos or other information captured by specific sensors. Once captured, this informations are conveyed to ground station where they can be processed according to the end-user’s necessity.
